The festival of Diwali is just round the corner and of course our excitement can’t be hidden. But wait a second; Are you also worried about weight gain during this festive season? Well I am worried coz indulging in sweets, fried foods during parties in diwali does leads to weight gain. And so this year I thought let’s avoid this unwanted weight gain by eating healthy during diwali festival. Don’t worry I am not gonna keep these tips to myself. So here I am sharing some valuable information on how you can eat out during diwali and still maintain weight.
HEALTHY BREAKFAST (THE FIRST STEP)
Include a high fiber, healthy breakfast to ensure you are high on energy throughout the day.
And also you don’t start indulging in sweets from morning itself.
BALANCE YOUR CALORIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY
During diwali we already have our intake of sweets and drinks and also some diwali special recipes in diwali parties so you need to control on your calories throughout the day. Include more of protein rich foods and less carbs in your diet.
DO INCREASE WATER INTAKE
Drink a minimum of 3 litres of water per day. It keeps you hydrated and prevents unnecessary snacking and food cravings.
TRY OUT SOME HEALTHY DIWALI FESTIVAL DRINKS
Not necessary you need to have that colas or sweetened fruit juice you can try out some fruit milkshakes rather or a combination of Greek Yogurt with Fruits.
BEFORE PARTY TIP
It is always advisable to turn up for a diwali party on an empty stomach. You could have a light snack with buttermilk so that you avoid over indulgence of the food served at the party.
You could try to have most of the meals at home and just have light snacking in parties.
ALCOHOL AND FESTIVITIES
During this festive season avoid drinking 2 medium drinks of wine or other alcoholic beverages in diwali as alcohol will stimulate the appetite and is primarily source of empty calories. Women should limit their intake to 1 medium drink. Prefer dry wine instead of sweetened wines.
If you have to go through a long evening over drinks, dilute your drinks or else take water or soda intermittently. People with diabetes should watch their alcohol intake as it can lead to hypoglycemia.
DINING TIPS FOR DIWALI
So, you might be getting invites from your relatives for this diwali festival. Here’s a tip for you. Make sure you eat mostly vegetables with less or no gravies as they are loaded with calories and fats. Try grilled, saute or lightly fried veggies.
CHOOSE SMART OPTIONS
You might get confused at what options to choose amongst the snacks but keep in mind go for baked items preferably. Try to avoid fried foods as much as possible. A chiwda would be preferably healthy than fried chaklis! Just a bite of some sweets and you are done!
TRY OUT SALADS AND FRUITS DURING DIWALI
Do include healthy salads and fruits during diwali as a part of the main course.
TIPS TO INCLUDE DESSERT
Skip the desserts if possible or else go for light one without much cream. Fresh fruits are always a good option.
Last but not the least, try out to balance your extra calories consumed during the festival time by trying a 1-2 days detox diet.
