I want to go on a “No carb diet”. This is what we often hear from our clients. All this while, we have already painted carbs as “Villain” of our weight loss diet. But are carbs really that bad? Well I don’t think so. What you need to understand, is, carbs are your friends and learn to make the right carb choice and eat in the right amount?
Here’s everything you need to know about Which Carbs to Avoid and Which to Choose? & Why are Carbs necessary?
IMPORTANCE OF CARBS
Just like your car needs fuel to make it run, your body needs fuel to make it go. Of course, your body doesn’t run on gasoline – it runs on carbohydrates.Carbs are the main source of energy. If you think you can do it without carbs, think twice. It’s not gonna be easy. An adequate intake of carbs also spares proteins and helps with fat metabolism
CARBS TO AVOID
Avoid all the bakery products made with refined flour, desserts, sugars and sugary drinks as these foods have “High Glycemic Index” which results in an instant spike in blood sugar levels and the excess insulin converts the surplus sugar into fat.
Say No to Aerated drinks and Fruit juices as why to add on these empty calories?
You might be still worried about including carbs like Roti’s and Rice in your diet. Let’s switch to “SMART CARB EATING”
SWITCH WHEAT IN ROTI WITH MILLETS LIKE JOWAR/BAJRA/NACHNI
Simply swap your regular roti with jowar/bajra/nachni roti as they are low in glycemic index and will be an excellent alternative for roti. Eat your carbs in a interesting and smart way. The goodness of these millets is that they won’t just satisfy your taste buds but are also highly nutritious. Try out the jowar roti or nachni upma or bajra khichdi to make your diet interesting as well as healthy.
INCLUDE FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Fruits and veggies apart from being rich in antioxidants are also good source of carbs.
You can have a fruit in between the meals and include veg salad along with lunch and dinner.
SWITCH TO HEALTHY SNACKING OPTIONS
Instead of opting for snacks like biscuits and cookies which are loaded with carbohydrates, you can switch to healthy snacking options like Jowar Puff, Roasted Chanas or Makhanas.
TRY GRAIN FREE DINNERS
Now, if you are still worried about carbs, you can opt for “GRAIN FREE DINNERS” like besan or moong dal chilas, Saute veggies with paneer, Sprouts bhel with veggies, etc. There are plenty of options to choose from.
I guess now you know “CARBS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. IT’S JUST TIME TO BEA SMART CARB EATER”.
